Getting started
Class-less version
The same styles with every class selector removed, for content pages and Markdown output.
The class-less build drops every selector that needs a class. Elements are styled by tag and by ARIA or attribute hooks only. It also turns body > header, body > main and body > footer into centered containers, so you do not need .container.
<link
rel="stylesheet"
href="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@rusticstack/pico-reforged@1/css/pico.classless.min.css"
/>
It is a good fit for blog posts, documentation, generated HTML and Markdown output, where you do not control the markup.
Example
<header>
<hgroup>
<h1>Field notes</h1>
<p>Short write-ups, no framework.</p>
</hgroup>
</header>
<main>
<article>
<h2>Why plain HTML</h2>
<p>It loads fast, it reads well, and screen readers understand it.</p>
<footer>
<button>Subscribe</button>
</footer>
</article>
</main>Files
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
pico.classless.min.css | class-less, azure theme |
pico.classless.<theme>.min.css | class-less in one of 19 other themes |
pico.classless.conditional.<theme>.min.css | class-less, scoped to .pico |
pico.fluid.classless.min.css | class-less with a full-width container |
pico.fluid.classless.<theme>.min.css | fluid class-less in another theme |
The scoped class-less files exist for the 19 themes other than azure. For azure, build one: pico-reforged build --entry classless --scope .pico --minify. All names are in the version picker.
What is not available
Anything that needs a class in the full build is missing here: .secondary, .contrast and .outline buttons, .grid, .container, .container-fluid and .overflow-auto. Use the class build when you need them. Hooks that are not classes still work, such as role="button", role="group", role="switch", aria-busy, data-tooltip, <details> and <dialog>.
Layout
The semantic container reads --pico-container-max-width, which grows at each breakpoint. To change the width, override that variable:
:root {
--pico-container-max-width: 960px;
}
For no limit at all, use the fluid file. Page sections are covered in Semantic container.
